Empowering Educators: New Funding Opportunity Under Teachers Cannot Wait Program

Dated: May 16, 2025

The Education Cannot Wait (ECW) initiative has announced a call for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for its new Acceleration Facility grant aimed at enhancing support for teachers in emergency and protracted crisis settings. With a funding pool of $2.2 million, this program seeks to address systemic challenges faced by educators and improve teaching capacities globally.

Key Takeaways

  • Funding Amount: $2.2 million available for a three-year grant.
  • Eligibility: Open to international and national organizations with legal status in the service delivery country.
  • Focus Areas: Strengthening teacher capacities and synthesizing evidence-based practices.
  • Deadline: EOIs must be submitted by January 30, 2025.

Overview of the Program

The Teachers Cannot Wait Program is designed to accelerate support for teachers working in both formal and non-formal educational settings, particularly in contexts affected by emergencies and protracted crises. The initiative aims to synthesize evidence from existing ECW-supported investments and analyze sectoral challenges to inform future strategies.

Objectives of the Grant

The grant will focus on several key workstreams:

  1. Evidence Synthesis: Collecting and analyzing data to inform ECW’s strategies and recommendations.
  2. Systems Strengthening: Enhancing teacher capacities at national and sub-national levels in selected countries.
  3. Global Reporting: Developing a comprehensive report on the status of teachers in emergency and protracted crisis settings by 2027.

Funding Information

The total funding available for this initiative is $2.2 million, which will be allocated over a three-year period. This financial support is intended to facilitate the implementation of the outlined objectives and ensure that teachers receive the necessary resources and training to thrive in challenging environments.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the grant, organizations must meet the following criteria:

  • Be legally constituted or represented in the country where services will be delivered.
  • Undergo a HACT assessment and be classified as either “low” or “medium” risk in all localities of implementation.
  • Register at the United Nations partner portal and pass core assessments, including PSEA assessments.

Additionally, other parties may receive funding as implementing partners of direct grantees, in accordance with the policies on sub-grants established by the direct grantees.

Conclusion

The Teachers Cannot Wait Program represents a significant opportunity for organizations dedicated to improving educational outcomes in crisis-affected areas. By addressing the urgent needs of teachers and enhancing their capacities, this initiative aims to foster a more resilient educational framework that can withstand the challenges posed by emergencies. Interested organizations are encouraged to prepare their EOIs ahead of the January 30, 2025 deadline to contribute to this vital cause.
